How far is my driver side wiper arm supposed to go? It stops about 3 inches before the edge of my windshield leaving a large area of water that I can't see through. I don't know if that's just a design flaw, or if there's something wrong, as I've never owned a Cavalier.
 
When the wiper is off does it lie right on the dark shaded area of the windshield?
When the wiper is off how far can you move it up the windshield with your hand?

When the wiper is off it naturally rests on the dark part of the windshield. When I move it with my hand I can move it about 3 inches up, which is right around where I've seen normal windshield wipers sit on most cars. That actually goes for both wipers as well.
 
If you have 3 inches of play you may have something worn in the linkage which then prevents a full sweep.
