Had the passenger side cv axle go bad and trying to replace. It's a 1996 3speed automatic. The shafts that come from oreilys, advance ect. Seem to be longer than what came out and will not go in far enough to reconnect the hub to the strut.

what part number did they give you? Advance appears to be NCV10582 or AX8546
did you show them the one that came out?

Ncv10582 but it's to long. It's going all the way in the transmission.

Yeah originally took the one that came out to oreilys. The one they have for the year did the same thing. Was Abt 2 inches to long side by side. So they ordered one for a 94 which is close to right. Only issue is theres a seal on the side that goes In the transmission that seems to prevent the snap ring from locking in. Plus still seems a bit longer.

not sure what else to tell you other than try someone else, perhaps NAPA or find a good used one in a junk yard

Thanks for the advice. Still trying to get it fixed. Any experiance with putting a sunfire motor in a cavalier ? My wife's grandfather had one put in sometime so guessing that's where my problem lies.

You are dealing with a transmission part, do you know what year the transmission is?

As far as I can find out it's the same transmission.so should be a 96. The driver side axle I put into it was for a 96. For some reason the passenger side doesn't match up.

if this is related to your axle issue they use different axles between the 2.2 and 2.4. Looking back over your posts you never stated what engine you have.
