the starter siezed up on my truck so i replaced it. when i tried to hook up the battery cable to the battery it started to roll over without the key being in it. the old starter had 4 terminals on the solenoid and the new only had 3 so i took it back and went to a different store and got one. it was the same thing so i put that one in and the same thing happens. the wires are all in the right spots because that is the only place they could go. nobody i talk to really has any sort of guess. my guess is maybe the ignition switch but i am not sure and looking for help.

It sounds like the hot wire on the solenoid has melted to the ignition wire.Take the wires OFF the solenoid, then hook up battery wire. Then, start putting solenoid wires on one at a time, you should be able to figure out which one is the problem.

ok my advice is go pick up a haynes manuel or chiltons from a local auto parts ware house and then it will tell u almost everything u need to know
