1996 7.4l intermittant high idle

I have a 1996 with a 7.4l 4wd. It started getting intermittent high idle. somewhere around 2400 in neutral. Changed out the Iac, and three o2 sensors. Never sets a code. Then it will idle just fine for awhile. Then come back and idle high, in gear or out of gear. I don't believe it has an intake leak because it comes and goes with the idle issue. It usually idles around 7-800. The it jumps up to 2k plus . Not sure it is is a wiring issue possible or bad computer I am thinking. Anyone else ever have this issue?
 
did you test for a vacuum leak by using a spray when you have the high idle?
did you clean the throttle body?
 
Took off the throttle body and cleaned it, removed iac and cleaned it, and the maf sensor. Nothing changed. It comes and goes. idle and drive fine for awhile then gets high idle. That's when I changed out the Iac.. good for a short time. 20-30 minutes of driving. Then came back and lasts for awhile. So then decided to go ahead and change out the original O2 sensors. Tried using carb cleaner on intake areas. nothing changed. Then switched to water hose all over engine and intake areas. Nothing changed.
 
your first post says you "changed out the IAC" now you say you "cleaned and removed it". Did you ever replace it witha new one?
 
do you have an advanced scan tool that will interface with the IAC to check it's position and move it?
there are no carbon deposits in the passage way that the IAC fits into?
 
No I do not have one. Thinking about it since this and I have a abs issue on this one too. I think its the front abs sensor going bad..but anyway.

I cleaned the passage out. Maybe not good enough... possibly.. Can try do that again since its free...lol

What is a relatively good advanced scan tool for a backyard mechanic?
 
try to find a used Tech II but be careful there are clones out there
