I could really use some expertise and advice. I have a 1993 Chevy Suburban K2500 with a 350 TBI engine and I'm having stalling issues. The check engine light is off.

Basically, when I push down on the pedal too far the engine will stall out at lower speeds or from a start when warmed up, other times it will hesitate. It will stall backing out of the driveway or out on the street if it's not fully warmed up. Once warmed up and traveling on the open road, she has plenty of power. Related to this, when this problem cropped up it started taking a few seconds to engage the transmission when I drop it into drive.

What have I done so far?

1) I changed the fuel filter.

2) I changed the spark plugs.

3) I checked the EGR valve.

4) I changed the PCV valve.

5) I sprayed cleaner down the throttle while running.

6) I changed the throttle position sensor.

7) I disconnected the battery for an hour to reset the computer.

The conditions haven't changed at all.

Other helpful information(maybe???): The exhaust system has a hole in the pipe after the catalytic converter right before it enters the muffler.

You can hear the fuel pump making a soft whine while the truck is running and the gas cap is off. I doubt it's the fuel pump but haven't discounted it yet. It seems like it has no problem supplying the fuel needed when driving.

Any help would be appreciated! I'm not the handiest when it comes to mechanical work but I get through it with brunt force and awkardness. I'd rather try to fix this myself or at least have an idea of what is wrong before turning it over to a mechanic who might feel the need to go easter egg hunting.

Have you checked the ignition timing? Have you checked the cap and rotor for wear or arcing? Have you checked for any cracked or broken vacuum lines? Have you checked that the bolts/nuts holding the TBI are tight? After that I would start looking at the TBI system starting with a fuel pressure test. The link below will get you started.

Hey Jack,
I'm new to this forum, however, I have owned several Tahoe's and a Sub...
What comes to mind is that you have a fuel pump issue.
Take it to a shop and have them put a gauge on it.
It should be between 60-80 pounds; 60 just to start it...anything less and
you will have problems.
It will start as an intermittent problem and then progress on a downhill slide.
Your vehicle is also older so it can be an issue with a dirty fuel tank that will continually clog the fuel filter and possibly even the screens of the pump.
If the pump still sounds like it's working it doesn't mean that it is pumping fuel.
