So I brought my truck into the shop because the tranny would not go into 3rd gear. I pulled the pan off and drained the fluid. The fluid has sort a burnt smell to it. Does thsi necessarily mean that the transmission is gone. I know it is not a sloeniod because it would either not go into 1st and 3rd gear or 2nd and 4th gear. The tranny was rebuilt about 30,000 miles ago. I want to know if this has ever happened to yo uand if a simple fluid and filter change may do the trick. I also want to know what is the best additive to put with the fluid if that does not solve the problem. I have heard to use trans-x or lucas conditioner.
