For the past month or so my truck has occasionally backfired when accelerating up hills on the highway... it's not a hard backfire that feels as though it was going to blow anything apart but still annoying never the less. The truck just gets slightly sluggish and less responsive to pressure on the accelerator just prior to it happening.... then it does it once and no problem. I've changed the plugs, wires, distributer cap, fuel filter. The EGR is sealed off and nolonger in use. The cat is hollowed out... I have no idea nor does anybody i know who is a mechanic as to what is going on.

Maybe just something I have to let go until it gets worse and easier to determine?

It also seems to idle just a bit rough after a longer (20+ minute) highway run... It idles rough under load like sitting in drive but again, only after a highway run. Almost feels like it's getting too much gas. Put it in park, or tap the gas or start driving again, anything to bring the rpm up a bit and it's fine again. Has never stalled.

Any ideas?
