I have a codereader, and I know that this code means the coolant temp isn't reading what it should be, and that usually means faulty thermostat or coolant temp sensor (and I have checked coolant level of course). The problem appears to be more than that so I'm hoping for some input from a more experienced person.
Temp gauge drops down to nothing, shortly after check engine light comes on. I can clear the code with my reader and gauge starts working again giving normal range, I initially thought the thermostat was just hung open and I was lucky not to have to replace yet. However after about 100 more miles it did it again. Cleared code out of curiosity and gauge works again now, same scenario.

I'd just go ahead and replace both the thermostat and sensor, but something else is happening that my gut tells me isn't a coincidence.

My radio is also acting wonky at the same time. Over the last week or so-about the same time frame I am having the other problem-every other time I turn the car on it is different....only tweeters will work, then all speakers work fine, then only tweeters and front speakers intermittently. I of course have checked all the fuses related to audio and fussed around with the fade and balance for the heck of it, and playing cd or using audio input jack has same issue across the board.

So I suppose my actual question would be is there a computer module or sensor anywhere that could go out and cause these two problems to occur simultaneously, or is this truly a coincidence?

If it is a coincidence, the sensor and thermostat can be changed for less than 50 bucks, so that is a non-issue as I would just replace both and be done with that. However, replacing the radio is ridiculously expensive.....is there something outside of the radio itself that could go bad that would cause this issue? I'm thinking that if it works intermittently then the radio itself may not be altogether bad, but whatever controls the output if that makes any sense. I am confusing myself even typing that lol, someone please help?
Thanks for the effort, but sadly it is not. I bought it used so I'm unsure how even the powertrain warranty transfers, but it's got over 70k miles on it-beyond the 3 years or 36k bumper to bumper for sure.

I believe your HHR is still under warranty. Have the service department at the GM dealership find out what is going on. I had a CD/radio replaced in my 2006 Silverado because it was defective.
