01' Chevy Malibu won't start?

When the car gets cranked it sounds like it's not getting fuel but I can hear the fuel pump turn on when the key is turned. The 'anti-theft' light blinks when i turn the key off. Is this the problem? If so how do I either bypass this security system or reset it? I have disconnected/ reconnected the positive battery cable and still the same result.
