Default Key stuck on, will start but not release

95 Cav, 2.2L auto.
Started off that the key got stuck in the on position (leaving dash lights on), could start and shut off, but could never turn back into the release position. Pulled the cylinder and it worked fine, so I replaced the ignition switch and the tired battery. At first, it did nothing, but I drove it and it released fine after. Now, it's doing it again intermittently, and it seems if I stomp the brake pedal it will release, but not always. It definitely does it less after replacing the ignition switch. I've examined the auto-shifter and it seems to click into gear fine. Wiggling the steering wheel does nothing. Shifting into different gears does nothing. Anything related to the brake pedal (or brakes) that could cause this to happen? Thanks

Your owners manual tells you the car has a brake-transaxle interlock. For you to shift out of park you have to place your foot on the pedal. You have a locking solenoid in the console which is released when you step on the brake pedal.
You may want to have someone step on your brake pedal and you determine if the brake lights actually work. If not the brake pedal switch could be bad. The other possibility is the shift solenoid.
