Default Engine & Trans swap question

I have a good drive train from a base lumina 1997 and a good base body 1998. The interchange says only 96/97 is a direct fit but if I would look up to buy a Transmission it says 96-99 works on the 3100.leaving me to wonder if I can just put the 97 engine and transmission in. The transmission was the question. The interchange says to go to a 97 engine in a 98 body then I'd have to change the lower intake manifold and radiator hose inlet by the erg valve. Is the transmission that specific? Counting the pins to the plugs on the harness on the Trans they are the same. Anyone who has an idea please let me know. I'd rather hold off and just find a 97 in good shape I can use the motor and Trans in if it won't shift out right.should the computer go with the 97 engine and Trans into the 98 as well? Both cars have the same first 8 character in the Vin up to M.

the computer and engine wire harness for the 97 should stay with the 97 drive train. Concerning the rest of the question since it sounds like you already have the 98 you cant see whether there are any differences in the mounting of the drive train into the 98, motor and transmission mounts are the same, not clear why if you are dropping the whole drive train in you have to be concerned about the lower intake and inlet? You are switching everything, not just the engine block and transmission?
