This is a reposted question. I don't think I worded it right because I didn't get the answers I was looking for so let me try this again.
I have a 96 Chevy Tahoe Z71 OFF ROAD 4x4. I recently took it in for a brake job and when I got it back I noticed a slight rattling coming from up under the vehicle. I looked underneath to see if anything was loose but couldn't find anything. About a week later while driving I noticed that my 4x4 indicator light on my floor shifter was on as if I had it engaged, but I didn't and the noise was a little louder now. It was still set in 2H. And then 2 days ago the noise got really loud like gears grinding while driving down the road. It stops temporarily when I let off the gas but usually starts back up after a couple of miles. I live in an Apt complex and when I drive over the speed bumps, it sounds like something is loose under the truck. The performance of the truck is still good, no power loss or anything. I would take it back to the guy that did the brakes but I am scared he is the reason for my current troubles because there is a history between him and this truck that I was not aware of. I could really use some sound advice before I take it to another mechanic so I know sort of what to expect. If you know what this may be or have experienced similar troubles before, I would love to hear your thoughts. I am thinking maybe the transfer case because the noise is coming from underneath the carriage of the truck, under the front seats. Thanks in advance!! Also I want to thank the 4 guys that answered my first post. All were good answers but not really what I was looking for.
