I'm deciding between a 2005 and a 2006 awd and would like to know how many miles I should get on it before major work needs to be done? Any Equinox/Torrent/Vue owners out there with personal experiences?

you will have to put major money into it every time the check engine light comes on...actually its like that on all the 1996 and newer cars. Plan to spend $300 when you see it!

Does it have a timing belt? plan to spend $1000-$1200 every time that needs replacing, you MUST replace it before it breaks or elst the engine valves will smash into the pistons leaving you with no engine. You usually need to replace them about every 60,000 miles.

Other than that, you should get between 200K-300K out of it, just lik eevery other newer car.

unless you want to save yourself a bunch of money in these times and get a car that will last you a million miles...

You should get 250,000 trouble free miles if you do the regular maintenace. Most people ignore the maintenace schedule in the owners manual. The AWD unit will cost some major bucks if that goes bad.
