how do i find out if my alternator is going out on my 2001 chevy tahoe?

i thought it was the fuel pump but i've fixed that already but it keeps breaking down on me and someone had suggested to me that it might be the alternator please help??

The gauge will be showing discharge and the battery dies on you. The lights will also be dim "Dimmer" at night than normal.

Take it to Advance Auto Parts and they will check it for free.
