how do you change a serpentine belt on a 1995 chevy cavalier w/air?

I have replaced the alternator and I have the belt in place but can seem to get the pullies loose enough to put the belt back on.

You have to retract, pull the tension back, on the idle tensioner pulley. Sometimes it takes alot of muscle.
