there is a label under the hood or on the radiator support. You could also look at the 8th digit on the VIN number, if its a R, its a 5.7 engine.

the above answers are correct........... or start by asking at a parts store like Auto Zone or Napa or any auto parts. They will tell you what varietys were used in your particular Tahoe. . It is very likely that your Tahoe uses a 350 cubic inch V8 motor with possably fuel injection and automatic transmission. or it is also possable that a V6 motor was used , in the above question you need to detemine if yours and theirs is a V6 or V8 and another complication may come in the form of features that either vehicle has ie. air conditioning different smog controls, carburator or fuel injected. however if they were within a year or two of each other, it is likely they have similar components or the same componants, and that IS important when switching their motor into your vehicle because if they lack a componant that your vehicle has as an option such as air conditioning or different electronic ignition components, you may find that the cost of those parts are substantial and its not a just buy their Suburban and through their motor in your Tahoe

As long as it's the same Liter size ( 5.7L for instance ) it will fit. Also, make sure it's close to the same year. GM has switched the basic design of the 5.7L since '86 and then again in '96 I think. So an older 5.7L wont work with your Fuel Injected '95 5.7L. Or call a junk yard, they will tell you what year vehicles engines will fit your '95 Tahoe.

look under the hood of both vehicles there should be a decal that says the engine size, either on the underside of the hood or on the rad support.
