can i remove the thermostat from the coling system in my chevrolet cavalier? can that thing be remover from any car? or all the car must had that thing inside there...

Thermostats do not short out, they are not electrical. They work by a spring that expands and contracts with the temp of the coolant.
You can remove them, in 2.2l engin if I remember correctls it's below the alternator. It's not a good idea to remove it and not put one back in it if thats what you are thinking. Doesnt let the engine run at the proper opperating temp, gas milage and a whole host of other things will suffer.

The thermostat can be found below the radiator. I personally removed one out of a impala because it was not working properly. If it is not working properly the unit might be shorted out and you need to replace it.
