And sometimes Y

My 2006 Chevrolet Colorado is 2WD (rear) with a 4 cylinder engine. I will soon have 30 or 31 tires (without a lift), but no other upgrades (It's got coils instead of torsion bars, so a lifts are rare and expensive). It's not an offroad edition (Z71 or anything else) and I'm afraid there's nothing I'll be able to do to help it be able to offroad. Are there any upgrades I need to give the engine more power, or anything that I can to do be able to offroad better without fear of getting stuck/ruined? Not necessarily any very serious offroading, but just some light mudding, and stuff like that. Any advice or upgrades I could add (for not to much money) would be very much appreciated.
