Key Question

Do any of you guys know if the keys for an 07 Equinox have a chip in them? I had a spare made at the hardware store, and it will turn the ignition on where I can roll down the windows and play the radio, but it won't start the vehicle. What's up with that?

I am gonna guess yes. Seems just about every car I see from 2007 on has a chipped key. I know my Saturn does (2007) ... Many hardware stores have the ability to make "chipped" keys now... I saw signs at the local ACE here just last week

Thanks for the link, Rick. I called the local Chevy dealership and the service manager told me just to take my chipped key and start the vehicle, then turn it off and remove it. Then to put the new key in and start it. It worked, but the message to service the theft deterrent system showed up. I think I'll just order a couple of those chipped blanks that you showed me. I appreciate it! I went ahead and placed an order. I don't like that message showing up in my odometer. I guess I can clear it by disconnecting the negative battery cable?
