05 chevy equinox stalls?

I have a chevy equinox that stalls when I accelerate. It used to go to 90mph now its down to 50mph. Seems to be getting worst. My mechanic says its to fuel pump becuase it is send air bubbles in the fuel flow. Also it gets hot when idle. We took off the thermostat and seems the water pump is not pumping.

Whoa wounds like a couple of problems. Lack of power can be caused by a bad fuel pump, but not over heating.

By any chance has anyone looked at the exhaust system. A blocked up catalytic converter can cause a lack of power and overheating condition at the same time.
