My 2006 Chevy Impala is stuck in park?

My 2006 Chevy Impala is stuck in park. The gear shift is located between then seats and the button that must be pressed in to move the gear shift cannot be pressed in. We have tried pressing the brake, applying and releasing the parking brake, etc. We also turning the car to accessory but the car would still not shift out of park. Any ideas?
we also tried rocking the car with no success.

Some vehicles need the brake peddle pressed while taking out of park.Also if that does not work, try cracking the steering wheel. Give it a good crank one way or the other while taking out of park. If this works , you need the shifter cable adjusted.
