2005 chevy cobalt....engine light blinks, car bogs, smells burnt?

no previous problem. car didn't want to to turn over, once started, idle V. rough even with fuel injection. car bogged...very little pick up. I can't see any busted belts, no other lights came on...is this a mis fire? should I just try to restart? I don't want to make the problem worse.. and I can't find my manual to make a proper diagnosis. Please help. Thanks

Flashing check engine light signifies a misfire- get it fixed before you damage the cat.

No, have your main sensor module fuel control sensor checked.
