Take out all the seats, put a carbon fiber hood on it. Straight exhaust with a turbo and super charger. Then a new cam, new suspension, slotted disc brakes. When you complete this then I would suggest that you get the comuter reprogrammed. Also put some 3:73 in it if you plan to drag race.

There are a surprising number of mods that can be done to this motor.
Install a 3.4L intake manifold, it flows more air.
Comp cams makes camshafts for this motor.
Replace the valve springs with Chevrolet LS1 or LS6 springs. You will need a different valve spring retainer. The 60 degree V6 forum has a parts list.
Add a windage tray from a 3.4L in the crank case. This keeps excessive oil from splashing onto the crank shaft freeing up a few more ponies. The 60 degree V6 forum has a parts list.
Add a larger throttle body. The stock throttle body is only 52MM. Plenty large enough for a stock 3.1L. But if you are making any serious modifications to the engine, go with a 62MM throttle body.
Add a nitrous kit, with some precautions. The stock pistons aren't very strong. Don't add more than 50 horse power with nitrous with stock pistons. If you replace the stock pistons with Hyperutectic or Forged Pistons, you can add as much nitrous as the transmission will hold. This is somewhere around 120 horse power.
I have even found stroker kits for this engine.
The 60 Degree V6 forum is an excellent source of information on this motor.
I currently own 2 GM products with this engine. I have lots of fun surprising the kids with their rice burners.

I would save my money as well. My minivan could outrun your cavalier, but I am not adding any mods to that anytime soon.
