it is 4x4 and im about to get new tires. will new shocks help and if so what kind?

Your truck is not about a smooth ride. You can improve it from terrible to bad by buying more street oriented tires with at least a 75 sidewall; a higher side wall gives more cushioning. If you need new shocks you can get shocks that will cushion the ride. Some weight in the bed will help but could hurt your gas mileage.

This is a four wheel drive compact truck.
A "smoother, better ride" isn't a characteristic of this type of vehicle.
Tires and shocks may help - if your expectations aren't too high.
