I seem to have plenty of tread but there is cracks aka some dry rot. Does that mean I need new tires or should I just keep an eye on the tread? Thanks.
Thanks..the dry rot is within the tread-not on the side if that matters.

there is a production date on every tire made if the tires are over 6 years old ,I would replace them.

Dry rot on the side wall of a tire is unsafe. The tread is not that big of a deal, but the side wall is not steel belt reinforced like the tread. Dry rot weakens the side wall which could result in a blow out of the inside pressure gets to high. If any crack shows the white cords in the sidewall, it's time to change it. This usually happens when the vehicle sits for to long or the tires have been ran under inflated.
Hope this helps. Christopher

"Dry rot" is actually quite normal and by no means unsafe. If you are concerned about it have the tires inspected by a qualified technician at a tire shop but if the tires are less than 10 years old I wouldn't be concered about it.

If the tires sat flat with the weight of a vehicle on them, then the belt may fail at the laminate to rubber. This will develop a thump, then eventually fail, it is one case of possible warning before failure. This does not apply to any sun checked, bruised, side wall damaged, or suspect tires. An individual time line exists in all cases, and is indeterminable. The tire will fail without warning in many cases. Your choice, if just you ride on suspect tires, but if others/children are involved, then daily checks or walk around is recommended, with replacement as a factor. Any side wall bulge will operate under extreme conditions when cornering at speed, and will often fail suddenly, changing the vehicle trajectory drastically. To get a small taste, in an open parking lot or other space, let go of the wheel when in a slow speed tight corner and try to recover. This is like a blow out, and when at high speed, will exert strange forces upon the vehicle. Inspect these tires closely, and know their defect(s).
Cheers and good luck.
