View Full Version : A question about a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Nomad?

There's an auto body shop in my town and one of the mechanics who works there owns a blue 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Nomad. I looked around it and this is what I found out:
- The front fenders and rear quarter panels (rear fenders) have rust on them, so they need to be replaced.
- The seats inside have some tears; radio switches missing; really messy (it also has that old car smell inside, the one that smells like oldness and gasoline, which I really like).
- The original 350 engine is under the hood, but doesn't run; it needs a new starter and something else (can't remember what it is though)
- Minor rust around car.
- Flat tires
- Few tiny holes in the floor
- The frame is cracked in half

I talked to the owner and I asked him that if he were to sell it, how much would he take. He told me maybe $800 - $1000 for the entire car. I came back a few days later and I asked him if he would take $650 for the car, so I have some money for the repairs, and he said if I really want the car, then i could come back with my dad and he would sell it to me; otherwise if I don't want it, he'll put it in the junkyard. I find that "illegal", to put a rare and classic car in a junkyard when it is in restorable condition. So I was wondering a few things:
1) How much would I be looking at to restore the car?
2) Is it worth getting it?
3) Any tips on the car?
It has everything original, except the steering wheel is new for that car. It's like a racing steering wheel. But other than that, it's all original with an automatic transmission, roof rack, and many other things I can't remember.

ok I have been a car guy all my life. this station wagon isn,t worth anything in the car world. even with the 350 in it.Bottom line if your going to restore it to show room condition your looking at 30,000 grand .And you will never get that back out of it.There is a 69 on ebay right now for 2200.its a piece.

This is whats called a basket case. If you see this much wrong now imagine what you will find when you start tearing it apart. To do it right you will spend about 10 t0 15 thousand dollars to have it done right. If you try to fix it you will need extensive knowledge on repairing cars and a shop full of tools and equipment. Do yourself a big favor and walk away from this one.

if your really interested in this car everything you mentioned is fixable on it and then the car would be worth some money ,even the frame part is fixable, the main thing to consider would be the cost of getting this one back in good condition and getting it back to a point of where its worth something,if you can get it cheap enough and want to repair it there's many parts available for it,if you offer him anything for it at this point he,ll probably take it,so think it over and decide on it,i bought an old 50 chevy truck setting in a field that had been their for over 30 years and is on its way to being a sharp looking truck now, you,ll invest more than you can sell it for ,but if its what you want to buy go for it,good luck and enjoy the holidays.

That is a great price for this car!! If you have the time and the money to restore to running condition you will have a nice ride. These are rare to see on the road. You could do a road ready mechanics special for around $2k but you want to put a little more back if you want to go high performance.
