Hi, the dent is due to backing into a loading bar. The dent is in the middle of the backside [faces drivers behind the vehicle] of the trunk. A fairly circular dent , about 8 inches in circumference, and about 4 in deep. The color of the car is black.
Can I simply take a rubber mallet and pound it out? What is the worst case scenario. I know that sometimes a dent can be pounded out, but I never tried it.
I do not want there to be paint chipping which then may lead to rust? Currently, the paint is not broken, so if I do nothing, there is no obvious chance of rust.
