I have a 2000 Chevy Camaro, t-top. I just purchased it and there is only the factory system, which includes speakers in the doors.
I want to purchase the best possible sound system. I am a women and am clueless when it comes to this type of knowledge.

What type of sub woofers would fit?... component? powered? enclosed? I am leaning toward component subs, but what size...10? 12? 13.5? and what brand?

Aside from subs should i purchase any other speakers or accessories?
PLEASE HELP!, thank you :)

It really comes down to two things. How much you want to spend and what type of sound you want to get out of it. I'm 30 and have had some type of system in every car I've owned except the current one. (Baby comes first) I've owned alot of brands from crap to top of the line and 8-15 subs in many different configurations and found one thing to be true, you get what you pay for. That being said I have yet to find a better compromise with sound quality, product quality, and sheer SPL (sound pressure level, aka loudness) than JL AUDIO! And no I do not work for them lol. The only JL product I've never owned is a head unit and thats because they don't make one. Yes there stuff is pricey but it is made to last. The only JL product to ever fail me was a tweeter from a component set and that was because they were slightly over powered. I've also owned Alpine, Rockford Fosgate, Clarion, Pioneer, Kenwood, Eclipse, Infinity, and MTX. My friends have owned many others as well. As far as size goes, components for the doors etc. what ever fits is easiest. Subs is more personal preference and type of music you are listening to, they sound different. I like 10 or 12 subs. 10 three or four of them, 12 two or three. Also stay away from funky shaped subs IE anything other than round, its just a gimic. What ever brand and size you get just make sure the RMS numbers on the speakers match the amps that are powering them and you should be fine. No need to buy crossovers or equalizers because the ones that come with the components and built in to the amps are just fine. Capacitor cap not needed either however depending on how big you go a car battery designed for cars with big stereos may not be a bad idea. They often have bright yellow tops. I hope this helps, good luck!

Just get one 12 Kicker Comp2 w/ solo-barrick box. Kicker has always had the best bang for you buck on price to performance ratio.

To make life easier on yourself, here is a custom built enclosure that will fit your car perfectly.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7617_Sonic+Sub+Box-+OCCHV02-12.html

Now, in total, you will have 2 Cu Ft of air space for your subwoofers, meaning you should be looking for subwoofers that specs will closely match up with 1 Cu Ft in sealed space each, thus using all of your 2 Cu Ft so there is no waste.

Here is an example subwoofer that will work nicely in that enclosure:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8333_Pioneer+TS-W257D4.html

That is not the best subwoofer on the market right now, but if your not looking to spend a lot of money, then it would be your best choice for a beginning system.

If you are thinking about buying two of those Pioneer subwoofers, then here is an amplifier that will match up with them:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9551_Hifonics+TXi+1008D.html

You would be running those Pioneer subwoofers at 1Ohm with this amp. That amp is rated at 1000 Watts RMS, however, Hifonics amps are overrated by 20%, so you will be only seeing around 800 Watts RMS at 1Ohm.

Although, this is a good thing, seeing as you are only going to need 600 Watts RMS. This will allow the Hifonics amp to have some breathing room, so it wont be running at 100% all the time, stressing it out.

All you would have to do is make sure your Gain is set correctly, and everything is wired right and you will have a pretty nice system slammin in your vehicle =D
