Not a good choice for a first car. It's just way to much car for a newby (no pun intended).

As for the paint job it all depends on what you want done ie: panels replaced or fixed, and what paint you use.

as far as the engine is concerned that depends, is it a big block or a small block? Generally speaking if it just needs a minor rebuild-rings,bearings,cam,and a little head work it could be as little as $800 but could go as high as $5000.

I don't know much about interior work but if I had to guess I would say a complete factory resto n your interior would cost about $1500 or so.

Mileage will also depend on if it is a big or small block motor. Inhearintly big blocks get a little worse mileage, but also depends on what you do to the motor.

No. A classic car requires alot of maintainence even after you pay someone to do all the work you asked about. Therefore I assume you can't do any of the work, and you will be needing little things done that you will be paying for constantly.

A first car should be reliable, economical, and not worth alot of money if in case something bad happened, like a wreck. In the case of the SS, it would be a crime to let a 16 year old crash it, you just can't go down to the dealer and get another one. History is valuable, and a 69SS Chevelle is definately a valuable part of history.

The mileage would only be 12 or 14 mpg if the foot could be kept out of the carb, but more likely 8 or 9 mpg is realistic. Gas is $3.09 for unleaded, but the new engine may require super, which means $3.30 per gallon, or 37 cents a mile, plus insurance, plus maintainence. No. No. No. No.

Buy something else for an everyday driver/learner car, and keep the SS project for a Sunday car. Good Luck.

This would be a great first time car if it were in good shape and is ready to go but if your planing to do over, allow expenditure of approximately $20,000 for parts and labor and at least one year's time before putting back on the road. I estimate gas mileage of 12 to 20 per gallon.

Dude In more ways than one older cars are nice classics but you have to have both time and money involved to maintain it.In choices for engines the 350 cu. inch V8 is big enough to have in that kind of car anything bigger will cause you to dump gas out mileage wise here is a good website for classic chevys www.classic industries.com
