It may be wrong or whatever to compare these two cars, but work with me...

I think that first i should mention that we need it to tow a pretty big sized boat and we want 3 rows of seating.

My dad wants to get the dodge durango, but I know that the Tahoe (not the hybrid) is a much better car. We were thinking about getting it used so I was wondering first of all if you can even get 08 cars used (I'm new to this car stuff)?
What are some of the differences? How much more is the Tahoe and why?

The other thing is that we don't care WHAT SO EVER about the resale value! We are kinda planning on keeping this car for a while.

go with a diesel truck if you need to tow a big boat but if you need to have the extra seating look for a diesel ford excursion.......with the gas motor and towing you will get less thatn half the fuel economy it should get but with a diesel you will loose 1-2 mpg...and if you put on an intake exhaust and a tuner you will get 4-10 mpg better than stock.....DIESEL IS THE WAY TO GO

I would go with the Tahoe all the way! The Chevy Tahoes are built to last and they are VERY reliable vehicles. Dodges are not that great and are low on reliability. Sure it can tow more, but are you going to tow a boat every day? Also, the Tahoe looks better and is VERY versatile. You can pull a boat to a lake house one day then go to a dinner party the next and it looks great. Also, the Tahoe has better interior space than the Dodge Durango and Chevrolet pays attention to every little detail. My family has a 2008 Suburban and it runs fantastic! I would suggest the Tahoe definitly! And yes, you can get a used 2008 Tahoe. I attatched a link to the worlds largest Ebay Motors dealership in the worl called Texas Direct Auto. They have any vehicle for a really good deal and its based right here in Houston, Texas, so their vehicles are really reliable. I attatched a few Tahoes that are outstanding and a few Durangos just so you can compare, but I would DEFINITLY go for the Tahoe! Good Luck on the purchase! :)

P.S When you see the Tahoes compared to the Durangos, you can clearly see the Tahoe is better just by the way it looks. :)

either one is good, the thing is you may have less transmission problems from the tahoe than you will from the dodge especially if your going to be doing a lot of towing with it,the dodge is good but the transmissions will give problems in them if you tow a lot of weight really often with it,the Chevy will give less transmission problems though than the dodge will, both vehicles will do the job though,if i was you id go drive one of each and see which one best suited my needs the most, good luck with it.

The Dodge Durango has more torque than the Tahoe. The Tahoe will get far better fuel mileage. The Durango's body will hold up for a lot longer than the Tahoe, won't rust as bad. I personnely would take the Tahoo even though I am a Dodge man. They will do everything that you want and they are a lot more comfortable.
